I needed a screen protector, but didn’t feel like shelling out the ridiculous prices for a transparent piece of plastic that most retail establishments charge. So I hopped on Ebay and sure enough was able to find some cheap screen protectors for my Samsung Galaxy Proclaim, Stealth Shieldz. I got 2 of them for $2.99 with free shipping, talk about a steal. They arrived in a normal postage envelope containing a small lint-free cloth, a square plastic squeegee, and a cardboard instruction sheet.

The instructions were straightforward: peel the plastic backing from the screen protector, wet the whole back with slightly soapy water, align it on your screen and squeegee out any water that remained underneath. Following these instructions led to a nearly perfect application, no bubbles to be seen.

I’m impressed with the quality of these protectors. They do not cause any distortion of colors on the screen, and it’s not particularly obvious that one is on the screen at all from looks alone. You can certainly tell when you touch it though, as it feels slightly rubbery or ‘grippy’ if you will. It doesn’t create any real impediment to usage of the phone (as long as your fingers are completely dry), but it’s not as nice and slick as touching the naked glass screen. The protector makes the screen slightly more reflective which can be a problem when trying to view the screen outdoors in sunlight, as it creates a rather annoying glare.

At the time of writing this, the protector has been on my phone for about 3 weeks. With regular use it’s acquired a number of small scratches and light marks, but is still in relatively good shape. It has not started to peel up at all and no bubbles have formed, so it looks that it will continue to last for some time to come.
